Exercising and healthy eating
Hello. My name is Angelina. I’m a teacher with the online English school, EnglishDom.com. Today we’re going to talk about exercising and eating healthy.
It’s very important for a person to exercise at least several times a week and to eat healthy. There are several reasons people exercise or work out, is another way to say it. People exercise or work out to maintain their health and stay fit. Some people exercise to add lean muscle to their body. Some other people might exercise to lose weight. Other people exercise as kind of a stress reliever to clear their mind. Some people prefer to exercise because they are training for a triathlon or a marathon or a special event — a physical fitness event that they want to do. I work out at least several times a week because I want to maintain my health. I love to run so I have to run at least several times a week so I can keep at the same pace that I’m at. I also love to work out because it is a stress reliever for me. Anytime I get stressed about work or personal relationships or life in general I’ve found that when I go outside and go for a run for 3 or 4 miles maybe I always feel better when I have finished. I always feel like my mind is clear. I also try to eat healthy as much as I can because I know it is important. I know that that food that I eat is a fuel for my body. Whatever I eat is going to energize me to work out more so if I eat bad food, I won’t be able to work out. I know that if I try to eat healthy food my work outs will be as good as they can be.
Some idioms and expressions about exercising and working out are "hitting the gym". And "hitting the gym" is for exercising and that’s just telling someone that you are going to go the gym, you are going to work out. Another idiom is, another expression is "pumping iron". If someone says they are "pumping iron" that means that they are at the gym and they are lifting weights.
Another one might be when you are eating healthy, you might be on a diet and sometimes they are called "fad diets". "Fad diets" are temporary diets that a person tries to remain on that are normally very extreme and unhealthy. They are "fad diets" because they come and go. Another one might be, an expression is "rabbit food", if someone says you are eating "rabbit food" it’s because you are eating a salad. They consider that to be rabbit food, you know, lettuce, carrots, that sort of thing. Another is "you are what you eat" and that has to do with fuel for your body. Again, if you eat bad food, if you eat good healthy food your work out will be a little bit better. So, those are some idioms and expressions about exercising and eating healthy.
